For more than two decades Daryl Beier, the owner of Horizon Entertainment, has been conducting and coordinating wedding receptions to make dream weddings come true. In order to make sure that your wedding reception is fun and runs smoothly, you need some sort of event agenda. Through the use of wedding reception coordination guide sheets, Horizon Entertainment will help you plan your event to make your Big Day one that is memorable and as uniquely special as possible.
To begin planning your one-of-a-kind celebration, you and your fiancée will be invited to a face-to-face meeting with your actual DJ, the owner of Horizon Entertainment, to determine your goals, needs and objectives. Not only will this give you the opportunity to ask questions, but to compare and share ideas with our professional Horizon Entertainment staff as we guide you and help you with planning and coordinating your wedding reception. Things that need to be considered will include the cocktail hour, introduction of the bridal party, bride and groom (Grand Entrance), cake cutting, table blessing, begin food service, toasts by the best man and maid of honor (possibly also parents and remarks by the bride and groom), dance floor opening / first dance, mother/son and father/daughter dances, garter and bouquet toss and the music and entertainment. You can, of course, arrange these events any way you want to. You may even choose to have some sort of a Grand Exit from the reception right before the party ends? Or another great idea (if you and your guests love to party) is to plan an after the wedding reception party, if you want to do something beyond your wedding reception.
Once an agenda or schedule of events for your wedding reception has been created (an itinerary that works best for you and your guests) don’t forget to share it with your photographer and/or videographer, caterer, venue, etc. about two weeks prior to your event to make sure that all runs smoothly. You may even want to share this information with your guests by giving them a program prior to your event so they will know how your evening will unfold.

I can’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve heard people complain about their DJ not playing the right dance music at their wedding reception. But what exactly is “the right music”? When asked, brides say they want music that’s fun and danceable. But when I ask for specific song requests, my clients don’t always know the titles and artists’ names.
Most good DJ services will provide an extensive list of song selections which may or may not be right for your guests. Overwhelmed by the hundreds (or even thousands) of songs to choose from, the bride & groom will choose some of their favorites or they’ll just leave it up to their DJ. An excellent DJ will be able to quickly read the crowd and determine which songs to play and when to play them. He or she will have some gems (secret weapons if you will) that will pack the dance floor and keep it packed all night.
Now, some critics might say, “Yes, I know…the same cheesy songs that are overplayed at every wedding reception in the country”. And some brides & grooms demand that their DJ NOT play any of these songs and play their eclectic favorites instead. Then, on their wedding day, they wonder why no one (including themselves) is dancing. But there is a reason why these so-called “cheesey” songs are still played. They are played because THEY WORK!!
Some songs are classic and work every time for every wedding because they appeal to all ages and are fun to dance to. The key is having a DJ who can feel the vibe of the crowd and then give the right mix of classic and newer music to keep the dance floor crowded. Wedding Reception Planned Formalities: Making an Entrance verses "Making a Grand Entrance!"
One of the major focal points of any wedding reception are the special dances and special events or “planned formalities.” Many of the key elements, such as the “Grand Entrance”, “Cake Cutting” and Bridal Party Toasts” are events that make your wedding reception unique and special! Such planned formalities create the opportunity for rare occasions where all of your guests’ attention is simultaneously focused on you. Make these planned events as original and uniquely your own as possible, because it is likely that your guests will remember these moments more than any others.
As your personal DJ, Daryl Beier of Horizon Entertainment will help you plan each step of your wedding reception (with the help of our wedding reception guide sheet) in advance of your Big Day! Coordinating the “planned formalities” for a wedding reception is no easy task, especially for a novice. An experienced wedding DJ has prepared for these types of events and performed these types of activities countless times before. An experienced DJ will maintain contact with you and your professional vendor staff throughout the course of the evening in order to coordinate each “planned formality.” Remember that good communication and coordination is the key to keeping your wedding reception flowing smoothly and flawlessly.

Since most newlyweds are unaccustomed to making “formal appearances” or “formal entries,” many couples are unaware or unprepared to take full advantage of this special moment... the opportunity the Grand Entrance presents to themselves the shining stars of the evening! By pausing before your guests, you are acknowledging and reciprocating the love they have for you, which your guests are demonstrating by their presence and with their applause. After having received a few moments of applause, then make your way to the head table.
Presenting yourself to your guests in this manner may seem insignificant to you at first but (based on my years of DJ experience) it makes a big difference, an important difference between just making an entrance and “Making a Grand Entrance!”
