Betty Hayes-Baxter is the mother ofCheryl Baxter - Professional Choreographer, Dancer, and Actress
Cheryl Baxter started her choreographic career as an assistant choreographer to Gene Kelly and Kenny Ortega in Francis Ford Coppola's film, One From the Heart. She went on to work with Meryl Streep in Death Becomes Her, and Jason Alexander and Regina King in Down and Out in Chicago.
Her television credits include General Hospital, The Young and the Restless, segments on the Academy and Golden Globe Awards and many specials and commercials. She recently choreographed the Les Girls 3 breast cancer benefit for Peri Gilpin and the cast of Frasier and is currently setting shows for Universal Studios Japan.
Cheryl's background also includes appearances in such films as Xanadu, Grease 2, Tap, The Other Sister, Pennies From Heaven, and The First Daughter. Cheryl has performed in the L.A. and 1st National companies of Cats and 42nd Street and the Live From Broadway telecast of Sophisticated Ladies. Cheryl has also performed commercial work with Michael Jordan for Ball Park Franks, Vanessa Williams for Radio Shack, and Rosie O’Donnell for K-Mart.
Cheryl, an accomplished dancer/choreographer and Avoca Wisconsin native, was auditioning dancers for Michael Jackson's London performances at the time of Jackson's death.

iPod Wedding - Weddings Receptions DJ's Disc Jockeys

The phrase “iPod wedding” has been popping up so frequently it now shorthand for the do-it-yourself sensibility taking over a huge segment of the bridal market in these recessionary days. It is a term that delights the younger, tech-savvy bride but horrifies the American Disc Jockey Association, which decries the iPod wedding as inept, ignorant, and laughable (you can see the video that started it all and the ADJA’s video response here; read professional DJ comments per same here.)
But both the “Dump the DJ” interview and the ADJA’s response are partisan marketing sound bytes, and they don’t really discuss the pros and cons of using and iPod for event music (except for the financial impact and brides and DJs.) As someone who conducts a lot of weddings utilizing DJs--and yes, increasingly, iPods--and since I therefore have a basis to compare the two, I will chime in here.
Obviously there is the financial issue: using your iPod costs little or nothing if you already have a digital stereo system to plug into (or, as is also becoming more common, you have a venue that provides a digital interface for its sound system.) The cost for a DJ can be significant, ranging from the $50 Craigslist Special--a guy who downloads music illegally to pad his playlists, and if you're lucky he won’t rob your house later that night--to several thousand dollars for a top-of-the-line professional who provides pro audio equipment, microphones, fog machines, programmable disco lights, karaoke screens, and his own selection of bow ties.
But let’s consider the technical and aesthetic issues--since with iPod weddings, they are inextricably linked:
The iPod, bless it, has revolutionized the way we enjoy music but--and this is a critical BUT--it has a brilliant, subtle, intimate interface designed for personal use, not an interface meant for broadcast or performance cueing and crossfading. This means that with an iPod it is difficult to see what is being cued, you have less precision due to its touch navigation, and the ability to accurately cue using iPod touch-scrolling technology varies from person to person, often dependent on something as random as the size of their fingers. You can’t cross fade or vamp or otherwise cover up miscues or stall for time if a flower girl flips out or your elderly grandfather takes a couple extra verses to get to his seat. Because you can't crossfade, there's dead air between one track and the next, which ruins the dramatic flow of the presentation. All these things are just fine if you're jogging and listening on headphones--the sort of thing the iPod was meant for--but are a huge problem if you’re iPodding a closely-timed event like a bride’s entrance.
This is where a DJ is way better than an iPod: they can shape those dramatic moments so they are more effective, and they help you out by covering if the processional stalls for some reason (at least, an experienced, attentive DJ can help you. The Craigslist guy is off smoking a doobie somewhere, chatting on his cell phone and inviting his posse to stop by your reception later.)
Of course, live ceremony musicians can also provide the needed theatricality and cover for human errors--remember those guys, those real musicians? who were mostly supplanted by DJs offering cheaper goods?
Sounding familiar, ADJA?
As at the turn of the last century, those curmudgeons who couldn't stop griping about the superiority of The Old Grey Mare never brought saddlehorses back as the preferred form of transportation despite their grumbling. The horseless carriage is here to stay, my friends. Then as now, technology changed the world forever and the digital horse has already left the technological barn. Whether fate is kind or cruel to DJs who now struggle to pay their bills, one fact is clear: the iPod/webcast/digital wedding demographic is here to stay.

The one thing that ticks me off about this video is, just because you're a member of said "ADJA", does NOT mean you're a good DJ, or good DJ company. ANY idiot can join ANY group at ANY time. Not like they send out people to your gigs, rate you, then give you a grade... Then decide if you're good enough to join their "club"... Literally, ANY idiot can get a membership there.
So, really, joining the ADJA is a waste of money, because it proves nothing when it comes to DJing, or quality.

Brides to be, please watch this very carefully and decide if spending extra on a professional DJ/MC is really worth it. I would say , hell yeah! Stop ya penny pinching and get a darn pro! This is supposed to be the biggest day of your life for gods sake. Why skimp on the glue that holds the reception together. The cake won't entertain and coordinate 200 guests for 4 hours! And don't hire one of those "budget DJ's" either! They can destroy your special day too! A good DJ/MC will cost $800-$2000

Or another great idea (if you and your guests love to party) is to plan an after the wedding reception party, if you want to do something beyond your wedding reception.
Once an agenda or schedule of events for your wedding reception has been created (an itinerary that works best for you and your guests) don’t forget to share it with your photographer and/or videographer, caterer, venue, etc. about two weeks prior to your event to make sure that all runs smoothly. You may even want to share this information with your guests by giving them a program prior to your event so they will know how your evening will unfold.

For more than two decades Daryl Beier, the owner of Horizon Entertainment, has been conducting and coordinating wedding receptions to make dream weddings come true. In order to make sure that your wedding reception is fun and runs smoothly, you need some sort of event agenda. Through the use of wedding reception coordination guide sheets, Horizon Entertainment will help you plan your event to make your Big Day one that is memorable and as uniquely special as possible.
To begin planning your one-of-a-kind celebration, you and your fiancée will be invited to a face-to-face meeting with your actual DJ, the owner of Horizon Entertainment, to determine your goals, needs and objectives. Not only will this give you the opportunity to ask questions, but to compare and share ideas with our professional Horizon Entertainment staff as we guide you and help you with planning and coordinating your wedding reception. Things that need to be considered will include the cocktail hour, introduction of the bridal party, bride and groom (Grand Entrance), cake cutting, table blessing, begin food service, toasts by the best man and maid of honor (possibly also parents and remarks by the bride and groom), dance floor opening / first dance, mother/son and father/daughter dances, garter and bouquet toss and the music and entertainment. You can, of course, arrange these events any way you want to. You may even choose to have some sort of a Grand Exit from the reception right before the party ends? Or another great idea (if you and your guests love to party) is to plan an after the wedding reception party, if you want to do something beyond your wedding reception.
Once an agenda or schedule of events for your wedding reception has been created (an itinerary that works best for you and your guests) don’t forget to share it with your photographer and/or videographer, caterer, venue, etc. about two weeks prior to your event to make sure that all runs smoothly. You may even want to share this information with your guests by giving them a program prior to your event so they will know how your evening will unfold.

Will the IPod do the announcing, keep the agenda on schedule, lead the guests in the YMCA and put up with some of your guests horrible song requests?.
Bravo to the ADJA for creating such a perfect example of an unfortunate and unsuspecting bride GETTING WHAT SHE PAID FOR. A low budget DJ would have only been a slight improvement over this embarrassing debacle. I hope that more people see this video (and the voluminous list of videos with dreadfully awful DJs) and learn that there is no substitute for a well paid, well seasoned, well dressed, POLISHED professional.
